Nice to meet you 🙂
I'm Ned, a user experience designer at Methods consultancy in London, designing government services to create a simple and accessible experience for everyone. Currently my work ranges from improving the government design system and coding prototypes, to collaborating with other designers, researchers so the information on GOV.UK is seamless and intuitive.

Selected work: 1/3

Redesigned Selected Interventions service management software to be compatible with
the latest web browsers.

Selected Interventions helps Waste Management companies quickly handle municipal collections. At the start of 2019 I worked on a redesign of ECHO which is Selected Interventions framework.

The redesign was a success and customers loved the modern and user-friendly interface.

Posture Corrector is a Chrome extension
app that gives you real-time feedback on your posture.

After using a few other apps on the Chrome Extension Store I found that the features were limited with only the ability to set reminders. I wanted the language to be out there by taking influence from british twang to give it some character.

The app uses a machine learning module which I trained in good and bad posture positions. Now users can see their posture in action on Chrome and track it over the course of the week. After releasing the app on Product Hunt, it got great reviews.

Redesigned Waze to support cyclists
through the Five Ws and How process

5W, 1H is a process used for information gathering and problem solving. Looking at the
current Waze app interface I came up with the steps the user needed to do. I started
sketching out how the Waze application will look like with the cycling navigation in,
also considering the current functionality.

If this solution is successful we’ll see cyclists saying that their ride is more pleasant
and they’ve got to their location quicker.

I use these methods to improve the user experience

design-system@4x

Design Systems

Use design systems to store parts of the interface so your team can reuse them to build future screens and know what design decisions have been made.

affinity-mapping@4x

Affinity Diagramming

Gather information about your users and use an affinity diagram to organise your research and group it into different categories.

userflow@4x

User flows

Display a representation of your user's flow to complete tasks within the product. Designers use this to identify steps which could be improved or redesigned.

story@4x

User Story Mapping

Refer back to your stories about your product so you don't get lost with the products features. 'As a [type of user] I want to [do something] so that I can [get the benefit].

evaluate@4x

Heuristic Evaluation

Analyse your product to highlight the good and the bad, seeing what can be improved. This gets measured based on 10 usability heuristics, defined by Jakob Nielsen.

prototype@4x

Prototyping
Test your product before approval and it gets developed so you can validate your design first with your users and make sure you release the right product.
